Chats on Venet: DMs, reactions, and slash commands explained

July 19, 2026 · by the Venet team

Chat is where Venet relationships actually happen. It's a real-time messenger built for founders, with a few power features most chat apps don't have.

The basics

  • DMs open automatically when a connection is accepted
  • Replies — swipe or long-press a message to quote-reply
  • Reactions — react to any message with a tap
  • Read receipts — see when your message lands
  • Offline delivery — recipients get notified by email and push even when they're not in the app, so conversations never stall

Slash commands

Type / in the message box and a command menu appears. Commands are shortcuts for things that normally take five taps:

/meet — book a meeting

/meet opens the booking sheet pre-filled for the person you're chatting with: pick suggested times, and a video room link is generated automatically.

/meet now skips scheduling entirely — it drops a live call card into the chat with a Join button. Instant calls for "got 15 minutes right now?" moments.

/deal — open a deal room

/deal creates a deal room with the person you're chatting with (a Venet Pro feature). Add /deal: name@email.com to pull more people in at creation.

/imp — mark a message important

/imp need your answer today sends the message flagged as important — it bypasses notification throttles and emails the recipient immediately. Use it sparingly; that's what keeps it effective.

/invite — invite to your team

/invite invites the founder you're chatting with to join your startup's team on Venet, with a role you choose.

Notifications without noise

Venet throttles chat notifications so an active conversation doesn't flood anyone's inbox — a bell notification at most every 10 minutes and an email at most every hour per conversation. /imp is the deliberate exception.
